Digital Card Making with PSP

I love making my own greetings cards and thought that the card challenges would be a lot of fun. I have a lot of paper and pens...and the other things one would need to make great cards. I found myself trying to keep up with what is new on the market... then I realize all the stuff, the papers, glue, and stamps were getting very costly and I was running out of space to store it all.

That is when I decided to make elements for my cards in Paint Shop Pro aka PSP. PSP is a software that I have been teaching myself since version 3. Now using version 13 I have learned that the program can also create images and paint them as well. Light bulb went off...why not use it to make my cards and not just some elements for the cards. And so digital card making began for me...and boy has it saved me money.

This blog now consist of my creations that I have made using nothing but PSP. I found the challenge for me is to teach myself how to meet the different card challenges within PSP.

Well that is how all this digital stuff began...Just thought I share.

Like a Moth to a Flame

I used mostly gradient fills to help color in this image to get the effect that I wanted. When using gradient fills I find that each element of the image has to be colored in on it's own layer to get a separate effect. Like for the leaves for instance...each leaf had to be colored in on a separate layer or the gradient fill would be spread across all three of the leaves.

The challenges involved in this entry are:

A Good Book

The Corrosive Challenge Blog has a simple sketch for us this week.

The background digi paper I used on this card is an image of a book shelf filled with books and the digi stamp I aquired from dulemba.com, she has some wonderful images there just waiting to be colored in. Everything else on the card was create by me with the help of the PSP software.

Trick or Treat

The Corrosive Challenge Blog has a theme challenge this week and I bet you cannot tell what it is. ;D I used images from pcCrafter.com to create this card. If you have not been to pcCrafter.com, check it out they have some really cool clip art there that can be printed and then cut out or used like I do digitally.

Making this card digitally really came in handy. I had the frame and four different stamps that I wanted to put in the frame with the part that should hang out shows. I duplicated the frame 3 times, each on it's own layer...and I duplicated each stamp twice, each on it's own layer. To get the image that I wanted for each stamp I had to place one stamp layer below the frame layer and the other just above it...easing from the top stamp what I did not want to show so the extended portion of the stamp was now above the frame...look at the now framed stamps you will see what I mean.

Not Everyone is Perfect

The Corrosive Challenge blog has a sketch for us this week. For this project I used an image by artist Laurie Furnell from my pcCrafter collection. The digi paper is also from the same collection.

Merry Christmas

This was a masking challenge for The Corrosive Challenge Blog. You were to create somewhat of a scene using the masking technique. For me this was not a hard thing to do using PSP...in the PSP program it is the same as layering. My card has 4 layers to it...the background paper, the snow, the bear pulling the bag, and the text. When I got everthing as I wanted it I merged the layers together to create my finished card. The snow layer I did twice because I wanted it in front and behind the bear so I sandwiched the bear between the two layers and eased what I did not want overlapping the bear from the top layer.

The Older You Get

This challenge was a little tough only because I had to find something in my stash that I had not used which was the challenge at The Corrosive Challenge Blog. I have tons of digi papers and embellishments that I started downloading from the internet over a year ago. Going through it all to find something that I had not used yet was surely a task at hand. Anyway I don't think I used the papers in this collection from Seachell, Back to Nature. The frame was made from digi paper from the collection using PSP, as well as the buttons. The owl was a freebie digi stamp not sure from where.
