Digital Card Making with PSP

I love making my own greetings cards and thought that the card challenges would be a lot of fun. I have a lot of paper and pens...and the other things one would need to make great cards. I found myself trying to keep up with what is new on the market... then I realize all the stuff, the papers, glue, and stamps were getting very costly and I was running out of space to store it all.

That is when I decided to make elements for my cards in Paint Shop Pro aka PSP. PSP is a software that I have been teaching myself since version 3. Now using version 13 I have learned that the program can also create images and paint them as well. Light bulb went off...why not use it to make my cards and not just some elements for the cards. And so digital card making began for me...and boy has it saved me money.

This blog now consist of my creations that I have made using nothing but PSP. I found the challenge for me is to teach myself how to meet the different card challenges within PSP.

Well that is how all this digital stuff began...Just thought I share.

Hot Chocolate to get you warm and Toastie

A friend of mine sent me this digi stamp and I thought I would use it for this challenge entry. I thought it to be so cute I decided to add a jar of hot chocolate mix with it. The jar is recycled from an used up candle jar that I was going to add more wax to but decided to use it for the mix instead.

Your Love Warms My Heart

This card was created with the following challenges in mind:

A Spoon Full of Sugar...Snowflakes/Snow
Digital Tuesday...Never used stash
Tuesday Throwdown...Inchies (had to look that one up...had no clue...LOL)

I wanted my card to look like a hand made quilt...
For the background I used a quilt texture that I created for PSP and trimmed it with a border using a red gradient. I had a digi image of a pieced heart in my stash so I decided to use it as my POI. Using the pen tool in the color of the background I applied what appear to be ribbon to the top of the heart. I also used the pen tool in red to apply stitching around the heart. After adding the sentiment and snowflake overlay my quilted card for this challenge was complete. (Click twice on the image to see the detail)

The Best Kind of Friend

For the Sherrod Studio challenge this week it was asked that you use a sentiment as the focal point on your card and A Spoon Full of Sugar wants punches. I faded a picture for the background so it would not stand out and the sentiment was placed over the picture. The frame was punched from a sheet of digi paper and then a small heart was punched out of one corner. After all that I colorize a bow to match the frame and place it on the opposite corner of the heart.

Let Them Eat Chicken PotPie

This is a color challenge for Crafting with DeeDee Digis and the colors are orange, green, and yellow. I also decided to use this one for A Spoon Full of Sugar as well because the challenge was anything goes. I got lucky with this one...I had digi paper with exactly those colors so I decided to use it. I also decided to use one of DeeDee's digi stamps.

Lucky us

My cousin and I have the same birth date which is 11/26 and this year it happens to fall on ThanksGiving Day. I have not seen him since he graduated from high school, he now lives in Germany. About a month ago I was lucky enough to come across him on FaceBook. We made a promise to each other to post a birthday card on each others' wall. This card is for him as well as the challenge at ASFOS...which is a color challenge of brown as the base color and pink or blue. Happy B-Day Darren!

A Spoon Full of Sugar - Baby's First Christmas

It took me awhile to get this one just right. For the ASFOS challenge this week we were to do something for Baby's First Christmas.

I started out with a coloring book page of Rudolph the red nose reindeer and I colored it in using PSP of course. I was going to use the image to make the card but it just was not enough. My creative thoughts began to go a mile a minute, boy I was thinking...I wanted to do something outside the box with this card. Then I thought about the theme and it hit me. I saw the card in my head now I just needed to figure out how to get it on paper...well digital paper...lol

I took the painted image of Rudolph and overlayed it on an image of a silver ornament that I had done for another project, it started out as a coloring book page as well. All this was done in PSP. It worked..I just added the snowflakes to complete the card. Yelp that is what I saw...my card is done!

In case you can't read what it says on the ornament...it reads Baby's First Christmas 2009

A Spoon Full of Sugar - Create a Scene

I did not want to do a typical holiday scene for this challenge at ASFOS which is to create a scene, but I did want the feel of the holiday there. Can you feel it!

The butterfly image is actually a neutral brush tip from PSP that I painted...looks real doesn't it. The daisy is a tube image from PSP, and the brads I created using PSP. Everything else came from a digi kit from Dreamsfulfilled.
