Digital Card Making with PSP

I love making my own greetings cards and thought that the card challenges would be a lot of fun. I have a lot of paper and pens...and the other things one would need to make great cards. I found myself trying to keep up with what is new on the market... then I realize all the stuff, the papers, glue, and stamps were getting very costly and I was running out of space to store it all.

That is when I decided to make elements for my cards in Paint Shop Pro aka PSP. PSP is a software that I have been teaching myself since version 3. Now using version 13 I have learned that the program can also create images and paint them as well. Light bulb went off...why not use it to make my cards and not just some elements for the cards. And so digital card making began for me...and boy has it saved me money.

This blog now consist of my creations that I have made using nothing but PSP. I found the challenge for me is to teach myself how to meet the different card challenges within PSP.

Well that is how all this digital stuff began...Just thought I share.

Miracle of Christmas

I like using other colors then red and green for Christmas colors which is what the challenge is for this week over at Simon Says Stamp. For this card I choose gold and black because I think they are rich looking colors when used together and I wanted this card to stand out.

Happy B-Day

It took me a few days to figure out how I was going to add a charm to my card, but I am glad I did now I can combine a couple of more challenges with this one.

Allsorts...Sketch
Simon Says...Add a Charm
The Color Dare...Soft Suede,Night of Navy,Pear Pizzazz

For this challenge I used a digi kit for the most part, even though I did have to change a few colors so it would work. The heart charm I got from the internet, it did not have a chain so I had to remember how to create one using PSP. I guess it turned out ok.

We are a Perfect Pear

When I saw the challenge for Papercraft Star, I knew just what I wanted to do. The challenge is a photo inspiration. I have a digi kit titled a perfect pear that I thought would work perfectly for this challenge. I also included the challenge for Simon Says which is to use punches.

To create my card I used a textured digi paper that had the colors and some cool texture to it as my background. To that I added some green suede material digi that I punched an edge from and also used a pear punch, that I created from the pear embellishment and a heart punch in 2 sizes. I also created an alpha pear sticker from a photo of pears and added that as well. Adding some text on a path and a ribbon finished off the card.

Thank You

With this entry I used the Color Dare challenge colors, Peach Parfait, Rich Razzleberry, and Sahara Sand. I also applied the challenges from Simon Says and Papercraft Star which both had the theme of Thank You with the addition of dry embossing, die cut, metal and anything else for the Papercraft Star.

For the paper I used the colors to create stripes. I punched out a circle from copper sheeting creating the background for the flower punches. I also used the copper to emboss my sentiment on. The ribbon was created from a strip of the gray and then crimped and a strip of the purple was added.

Remember

The Papercraft Star had a recipe for us to follow this week and I use the sketch from Simon Says to help me complete it.

Once again I chose a digi kit to make the card. Some of the elements, like the flowers and buttons I created in PSP using the digi papers from the kit, but all and all I had fun and I think the card turned out great if I do say so myself.

The Recipe
:
Make a Card
Base: 5.5 x 5.5
Mat: 5x5
Score Mat 5 times at 1/4 inch
3 Flowers from Die Cut or Punch
3 Buttons and Twine
(You may also add a sentiment or other items as desired)

Make a Wish

This card is for Simon Says and this week's challenge is to make it move. When I was younger we use to play a game with the seeded dandelions...you would pick one very carefully as to not lose any of the seedlings and when you got it just right you would blow on it and watch the seedlings take off then make a wish. Kid stuff right...LOL

Well that is what this image reminded me of. All the little seedlings flying in the air.

Merry Christmas Dear FRIEND

I am really excited about this card I did for two challengesThe Color Dare challenge. The colors for this challenge are Very Vanilla, Pretty in Pink, Cherry Cobbler, and Garden Green and the Simon Says Challenge which is the theme Holiday Fun. The reason why I am so excited I taught myself a new technique using PSP. I saw the easel cards others had made and I really liked the look, but what I didn't know was how to recreate the look digitally using PSP until now...yippee! Knowing I should be sewing...I worked on it until I got what I thought was the look. What do you think?

Double Challenge

I crossed over and did a little shabby chic for this challenge. It is a double challenge for Simon Says and The Color Dare. Simon Says challenge is to give thanks in some way...make a Thanksgiving theme card or a thank you card. The Color Dare challenge is colors of course and you will find them here.

I found some torn mulberry paper and tattered brown paper in my digi paper stash that I thought would work. I decided to create a piece of white ribbon so now I had all the colors from the required list. To bring it all together, in PSP pattern papers I found a pattern with almost all the reqiured colors the brown was not quit right, after a little this and that it became perfect.

I have met the challenge and my card is done.

Simon Says...Red and Green

With Christmas approaching really fast these are a perfect color combo for this challenge. I have chosen to make but another Christmas Greeting Card. By the time the holiday does roll around I will have plenty to chose from.

The image on my card is from a coloring book page and with the help of PSP and some plug-ins I colored it in and added a few other touches. I removed the white background from the coloring page using a plug-in and that really made a difference. I then layered the image on a red and green plaid background. It looked okay but I thought the image was too small. I selected a square portion surrounding the image and cropped the whole thing to it. Now I have a square, the image and some of the background. I set that a side while I made another card and flood filled it with the plaid. I took the image and background that I cropped and applied it to the card. Much better. Card is looking great but it still needs that kick to send it over the top. My gold corners! I added the gold corners and that did the trick! Challenge met my card is done!

Simon Says and 365 Cards Challenge - Super Sunday

I was making this card for the Simon Says Challenge and realize that it will work for the 365 Card Sketch Challenge as well. Simon Says Challenge we are to use stitiching on the card and 365 Card challenge is a sketch.

Last night while surfing I came across a website full of tutorials for PSP and one of them was how to stitch in a shape. I was floored. Just what I needed. I had always wanted to try it but did not know where to start. Now I got it down pat! Yippee!! Both challenges have been met my card is done.

I fell a sleep last night before I could finish exploring the new found website...so guess where I am going. You all enjoy your day. Check back later you may find some new cards that I just did for the fun of it all!

Friday Sketchers and Simmon Says Stamp

Today is Friday and it is time for a new sketch over at Friday Sketchers, but you know what I think this card is good enough to use for Simmon Says Stamp Challenge as well.

Over at Simon Says it is a recipe challenge and the ingredients are as follows: Use 3 embellishments, 2 papers, and 1 image. I have an elements packet that I download from http://nkdigitalart.blogspot.com that I think will do nicely. The image is a faerie stamp that I received as a prize for best card in a challenge from Faerie Song Artist Stamps Group over at PCP.

The card has the sketch as it's base and all the ingredients from the recipe. I do believe the challenges have been met and the card is done.
