Digital Card Making with PSP

I love making my own greetings cards and thought that the card challenges would be a lot of fun. I have a lot of paper and pens...and the other things one would need to make great cards. I found myself trying to keep up with what is new on the market... then I realize all the stuff, the papers, glue, and stamps were getting very costly and I was running out of space to store it all.

That is when I decided to make elements for my cards in Paint Shop Pro aka PSP. PSP is a software that I have been teaching myself since version 3. Now using version 13 I have learned that the program can also create images and paint them as well. Light bulb went off...why not use it to make my cards and not just some elements for the cards. And so digital card making began for me...and boy has it saved me money.

This blog now consist of my creations that I have made using nothing but PSP. I found the challenge for me is to teach myself how to meet the different card challenges within PSP.

Well that is how all this digital stuff began...Just thought I share.

Ageing is Awesome

When I went to Charleston, SC I took several pictures of the Angel Oak tree which is pictured below. I could not see a more fitting tree to put on my card then this one. The card of the tree needs no embellishment added, it stands very well on it's own.

The tree is said to be more then 600 years old. Below the card is a second picture with people standing around it so you can get an idea of the size of the tree.

My first 3D attempt

Have you seen those cards and/or pictures that have that 3D effect to them...you know the ones...they have the same or part of the same image layered with a foam dot or dimensional glue dot between each layer so it stands out just a little...well I am trying to see if I can get that same effect digitally. While doing a search I found 3D digi stamps at Cuddly Buddly and decided to give it a try.

I figured if I put a shadow on each layer that I apply that should help give me the depth appearance. The card below is my first attempt at it. It is also for the Crazy 4 Challenges entry which is a sketch challenge this week.

Beware of What Lerks on Halloween Night

I guess I have just added another color for Halloween..red! And why shouldn't it be...blood and guts are always thought of that night! ;D

This nontraditional card is for three challenges:
Allsorts Challenge...spots and stripes
Card Patterns...sketch
Crazy 4 Challenge...Halloween theme

The image used in this challenge is one of Dustin Pikes...I think his images are hilarious and fun to color.

Let It Snow

Today I have 2 challenges for this card:
Allsorts Challenge blog...use at least 3 punches
Crazy 4 Challenges...a sketch

The big snowflake, and the 3 strips were all punched from digi paper using PSP. The three red brads were made in PSP as well. The image I acquired from a coloring book page which I scanned into my PSP program and then colored it using layers. Let it snow!

Thankful

I think this card covers 3 different challenges:

Stamp Something which is a theme Thank You Something
Allsorts which is a also a theme Christmas Carol or Song title
Crazy 4 which is a sketch you will find it here.

The papers I used for this challenge are from a digi kit titled Vintage Oreo, a very fitting name. Once again I used a coloring book page for the image. I really like the lyrics to this song so I have included a link here.

Double Up

I combined the challenge for Allsots which was to make something for a child and Crazy 4 Challenges which was to use acetate on your project.

I made this several years ago using the glass bulbs you see in the craft stores. This time I recreated it using PSP.

I guess if I were to make a physical project using acetate the steps would be as follow:

First thing I would do is heat the acetate just enough to mold it around the top of a light bulb. Allowing it to cool and repeat for second half.

I would make the arms, gloves, legs, and shoes out of chip board and construction paper...gluing the construction paper to both sides. I would also use the construction paper for the mouth. I like those eyes that move...you know the ones, I would use them instead of the paper just because I think they are fun and glue them on.

I would use the formed acetate to trace a circle frame out of chipboard to glue the completed legs and arms to. Making sure I added the cap for the hook at the top.

Glue one of the acetate circles to the frame. Add the contains then glue the other have. Add the hook and you project is complete.

Double Challenges

This entry is for 2 challenges...Allsorts and Crazy 4.

Allsorts required you to use a furry friend on the project. My friend is the kitten asleep in the flower pot. Crazy 4 required you to use at least 3 shapes...mine are circles, rectangle, and oval. Challenges have been met, my card is done.
